The annual President's Tour departed Decatur Texas Friday October 4, to tour northern New Mexico. A Jag, a Healey and a Jensen Healey made up the convoy to Santa Fe for the first night party hosted by Ben & Judy Fryrear. After the 600 plus miles we arrived in Santa Fe with no problems.
A few drinks and some time to chat with the people that joined us from the Albuquerque club and it was off to dinner at one of the Fryrear's local spots. We are welcome to come back to this place again.
Saturday morning found the group at another of the Fryrear's great places to eat in Santa Fe. We are welcome to come back to this place. We walked downtown and then headed up to the ski area. This was some road, and the altitude made the cars a little weak. Not to mention we also needed the heater on. After riding the chair lift up and back we rested and tried to get some oxygen. That afternoon Bobby, Sandy, and Molly Ward stopped in Santa Fe and Sandy bought a new Mini Cooper. Saturday night we ate at another of the Fryrear's special spots. Great food, but we are not welcome to come back to this one. We just got out before they called the law.
Sunday we departed by the high road to Taos, Red River, Eagle Nest and Cimarron. After departing the Fryrear's we had a small problem with the JAG, a broken axle. No problem, call the wrecker take the car to Ben & Judy's and load all the Ward's stuff in the new Mini Cooper. The Kit Carson Inn in Cimirron was or lay over for the night. As we pulled into the Inn the owner came out and said "No oil leaking British cars". He was just kidding and even knew what a Jensen Healey was.
Monday found us with a couple of problems. First I forgot to put the oil cap back on the Jensen after checking the oil . It was dark when we pulled in to Springer for gas and the smoke was rolling out of the Jensen. No problem, put the cap on and burn the oil off the headers and it was fine. Second, after breakfast in Clayton we tackled Don Bundrant's problem of running on 5 cylinders. Well, we didn't do so good on this one. After changing plugs and distributor cap with new wires he ran back to Dallas on 5 and sometimes 6 cylinders.
Thanks to the Fryrear's for being great hosts.
The following are photos of some of the great scenery we saw.
